Drum Making Workshop II
Cara Studios
Fall 1999


Reid McGowan, percussionist from Carrollton, Georgia  conducted his  second
drum making workshop  for Lamar Arts last fall.  Participants constructed their
    own hoop drums. The drums were  made in  Native American style  from elk hides.

Reid is a talented guitarist and percussionist. He is a member of two bands in the
Carrollton area.  He is also one of four talented musicians that play for the
interdisciplinary presentation "Folded Wings" at Cara Studios in Barnesville.

 Learning to Play the Drum
Reid returned to conduct a follow up workshop to learn to play the hoop drums.
He also talked about how to use the drum for meditative purposes and gave  historical information.

freePublic Drumming
The evening  ended with a drum and flute presentation and demonstration of percussion instruments by
Reid  and Jon Liebowitz , also  from Carrollton, Ga.  A public participation drumming  followed.
